I seem to recall that Advanced Options wouldn't fix this issue when I had it, because it seems to be an issue with Steam and WMR not communicating your position to each other correctly. It puts a new menu in your thumbstick click Steam Menu that lets you adjust all sorts of things, including your position in VR in every direction. This also fixes an issue I used get sometimes with seated where leaning just moves the entire worldspace rather than letting you lean in VR.Īnother option that might work is to get Steam Advanced Settings, which you should absolutely have anyway, and try adjusting your offsets that way. Do the setup with the HMD at the height you'll be sitting at. You should be able to find it easily by just checking all the options in the drop down list above your library list and searching for "room" in the searchbar.Ĭhoose Standing Room Only, and set your height to how high you want VR to think you are, so if you want your perspective to be 6' or 1.8m, set it to 72" or 183cm. I haven't used it in a while because I now have room for roomspace and don't really play VR any other way anymore. It may not show up if you don't have your HMD plugged in. It is a separate app from Steam VR's launcher. It should be under either Tools or Software. The first option is to set yourself up for seated position in WMR and then run Steam Room Setup. I've seen several discussions of Unity devs having difficulties with seated mode.I've had a few games do this when I set up for seated. It's also possible that the VR libraries in popular engines don't let you do it, or behave differently when you are using SteamVR vs other VR runtimes. I'm not fully sure though, I haven't made anything that uses seated mode or toggles between modes.

It should be posible to toggle freely, at least on the OpenVR API level. Interesting, is this for only seated games checked at run time or is it a option developers can toggle freely? There aren't many games I play that are only seated experiences (like I expect you to Die), but I play a lot of games that have the option for both. It does nothing in standing mode (and also hidden in the new beta dashboard). If the game is running in seated mode, the Reset Seated Position button in the dashboard will reset your position. If the game is instead set up to use seated mode, it will disable the chaperone when you are near the seated zero position. Originally posted by Rectus:It works that way if the developers have set up their game to use standing mode. Even with the alpha all the way down it was still really distracting seeing the floor outline when there was no need for it. I also would like to be able to completely turn it off when I play a seated game, too.

Is there some way you can fix this? Like maybe a play area setting on a per-game basis? Maybe have a button that turns them off until it detects you standing up? Maybe have an option to define a zone so that SteamVR has some awareness of where your chair is? Maybe something else? My hand still hurts, and it's going to be really expensive fixing the damage I did, too. And then when I went and played another game some time later. Annoyed, I got rid of them as best I could.

My chair is outside of my play area (as one would expect) so I sat in it to play a seated game, but since I was close to the boundries they remained lit the entire time I was playing. I know this is going to result in a lot of 'lol ur an idiot' and I admit this is my own dumb fault, but I just smashed something and caused some nasty damage because I changed my boundries to 'floor only'īut the reason why I did that is something that I wish wasn't necessary in the first place.
